A small 8 by 10 oil study.

Friday, December 26, 2014

Excited the way the lights came out in the tree lined path near the Wilson River in Oregon. Took me about a week to do since I worked in layers and like to stop and go back later with fresh eyes. I think I might try some more of these.

Columbia County summer trees

This is a beautiful field near where I live and have been looking at it for a couple of summers now and finally got to working on some of the trees there. I can't say it will be my last trip there because I think there is more there.  This is an 18 by 26 inch pastel which I enjoyed doing.

Went to the Astoria Open studios gallery. Some nice landscapes up there and a sunny day. These in this picture I think are a Robert Paulmenn.

Oh I did get an Honorable mention at the Yamhill Lavender Festival this year which was a surprise because of all the other great artists that participated this year. So that was nice and encouraging.
Started a plein air but think i will go back into it and see what comes of it. If I'm going do to these layering ones I'll have to do more than one at a time. Well I guess they have a site called 3 at a time so that makes sense. I have to go get a new Pochade box. A bigger one since i have an appetite for bigger work.

took another pass at this one this morning. Might go out again in the morning. Can't stay all day. It's a bit hot for me.

Friday, July 11, 2014

Went out this morning to work on shapes and color. It wasn't too bad until about noon. I tried to hurry a little to beat the heat. But it's worth it. this was a one time study but I would like to do some that take more than one day.

This is a plein air oil I did at the beginning of the Yamhill Lavender festival paintout. The location is Mountainside lavender which is a favorite of many artists. The owners there encourage artists to come and paint .  I did five studies in all and visited about seven locations. It should be a real interesting show with many participants and styles. My aim in participating was to explore more oils.  Yipee! I received an honorable mention for this one at the Yamhill Lavender Festival.
Yamhill Lavender Festival paintout I went to several of the locations while they were open but only chose two for the show. This one is oil plein air of Goat Mountain which is one of the backgrounds for "The Meadow of Lavender" field. I usually work in pastels but wanted a change so I tried oils for this event. It was a pretty field and there was a newspaper woman there my son said was photographing me while I painted which was surprising because i didn't even know it . So perhaps in some printing there is a photo of me somewhere. Who knows.

Fall trees

I took a piece of BFK and put gesso on it and then put pastel ground on it . It was different than the Wallis but I pressed harder to put the pastels on the surface . I don't know if I like the way it came out but such as it is.
