Brush and Pallette life drawing session https://brushandpallette.

Went to Brush and Pallette the Creative Arts building to day in Gladstone and we worked on our model. This is the first pass for me and next week I'll work on it some more. It was good to see Diane back and Za Vue with her water based oil paints. I need to put the flower in her hair next week. The piece I'm working on is kind of big so it's loose. Za Was very supportive. https://brushandpallette.

Been having some fun with still life objects. There's still much to learn. This is on Canson Mi- Teintes paper but am thinking about experimenting on other paper.

Canson Mi-Teintes paper.great+american+pastels along with pencil pastels like Stabilo, Faber-Castell,Gioconda. and NuPastels .

I was asked if I worked these still lives from photographs. Here is what i do. I set up objects on a table and light them and then set the easel in front and draw away. That's how I work.

I don't know if this is complete or if I will go back to it. sometimes I think it's good to put stuff away and look at it with new eyes later.I added this piece to the 30 paintings in Thirty day challenge . Just for fun to see what I come up with every day and maybe artists should be working everyday.  http://30paintingsin30days.weebly.com/blog .

Well I don't think it's going to take me 30 days to figure out that doing quick one day paintings is a good thing. Kind of like fast food or drive by stuff. Although I do think it's good for doing a study of what you are thinking about painting to a larger extent. Why not take a piece of paper or board and some colors and take it to the spot you are thinking about painting and spend a hour or two looking at the colors and composition of what you want to paint and do a small study which is what these pieces ended up being.

this is day #12 of the 30 paintings in thirty day challenge. Since I was thinking about doing this composition on a bigger scale I decided to do a study on a smaller scale. I might revisit this composition on a heavier paper and make it bigger but it was good to do a study before I actually committed to a bigger piece. All in all this challenge has been a good discipline for me.

Still working on some still life things . Pastel. Approx. 21 by 13.

Saturday, January 9, 2016

So this is an area up by Astoria Oregon and it's a road that seems to be in a potentially marshy area but it did offer some nice landscapes. This is about an 12 by 14 done on Canson paper and a variety of pastels although I do like the Great American Art works pastels . Hope to continues on in the 30 Paintings in thirty cays challenge" I don't like to think of this a competition but a learning experience.

Sometimes you just have to grab those pastels and scribble. I may try it in a more realistic manner next time.

Interested in this one so I used pastel on paper.
so I think this is Day #7 of the thirty paintings in 30 days challenge and it's been fun to work everyday. -- So I've just been setting objects in a box or on a shelf and just drawing the shapes and sort of experimenting as I go. I never know where it will lead.

Tuesday, January 5, 2016

Well this is a quick sketch I did today. I think I was contemplating doing this composition and taking it further. I'll have to think about it but it was fun to do a quick sketch.
okay well I'm enjoying working on shapes. This 30 paintings in thirty days is giving me more discipline because of the deadline. I guess I like discipline. It's interesting to see which shapes and colors work well together and then say okay lets try that.
Day 5 of the 30 paintings in 30 day challenge . I started late tho but it's still fun. Well see what happens next.

Monday, January 4, 2016

I started this 30 paintings in thirty days. A few days late but I'm going to do it to challenge myself and also do some experimenting with smaller pieces so I can learn a few things. It's actually day four but it's day one for me. This is pastel on some Wallis paper.
